Opportunities for Faculty
ISDSI offers a range of opportunities for faculty and administrators, from leading short-term programs to sabbatical stays and institutional partnerships. If any of these options interest you, get in touch at [email protected].
Site Visits
The best way to understand what ISDSI offers is to visit us in Chiang Mai. We host two annual site visits for faculty and administrators, and individual site visits can be arranged year-round. ISDSI covers all in-country costs for eligible participants. Learn more about site visits →
Faculty-Led Short Term Programs
Are you a college or university faculty member interested in bringing a group of students to Thailand? We will work with you and your institutional study abroad office to design, develop, and run a short term program focused on your interests and needs.
Short term faculty programs can be focused on any topic related to faculty interests. We will work with you to develop programs that are hands-on, engaging, academically challenging, and rewarding for both students and faculty leaders.
Some of the programs we have run include:
- Southeast Asian and Thai history
- Economics
- Women’s health
- Mental health
- Elephants and veterinary medicine
- Public health
- Human rights
- Ethnic minorities and indigenous cultures
- Sustainable agriculture and ecology
- Coffee and other cash crops
- Service learning
- Contemporary art and art history
- and more!
Experienced ISDSI field instructors help facilitate the courses, handling logistics, budget, and planning, allowing our faculty partners to focus on teaching and education. If you have an idea, email us at [email protected] and let’s talk.

Sabbatical and Research Support
ISDSI has worked with faculty and researchers to support sabbatical stays and field research in Thailand. We help with finding housing, connect faculty to local organizations, communities, NGOs, and research partners, and assist with all the practical logistics of living and working in Thailand. Faculty are also welcome to join ISDSI field studies as appropriate, providing a natural entry point into the communities and landscapes they are researching. If you are considering spending time in Thailand, get in touch and we can help you figure out the best options.
Partner and Hosted Semester Programs
ISDSI works with colleges and universities to develop and run custom and hosted semester programs in Thailand. We design curriculum collaboratively, drawing on ISDSI’s deep connections to local communities, organizations, and ecosystems alongside the academic goals of the partner institution. Current partners include the University of Minnesota’s MSID Thailand program, Kalamazoo College, and Lewis & Clark College. If you are interested in developing a program for your institution, contact us at [email protected].
