Are you ready to step outside of the classroom for the study-abroad experience of a lifetime?

Study Culture, Ecology, and Community in Thailand!

If you are looking for a once in a lifetime experience, apply now to spend a semester studying with ISDSI in Thailand.

ISDSI’s semester is a rich hands-on learning experience exploring the diverse cultures and landscapes of Thailand. During the semester you will explore the ancient city of Chiang Mai, as well as travel and study throughout Thailand, from remote villages in the North to the islands in the South. Semester studies include sea kayaking and skin diving coral reefs, hiking into mountain villages, and living and learning in rural villages.

ISDSI courses are community-based — local communities collaborate in course design, as we work to empower the poor and marginalized.  Students play a key role in this by learning from local communities.

Semester Courses:

THAI — Thai Language and Society: Throughout the semester students study Thai while learning about Thailand’s rich history and culture.

VILLAGES — Sustainable Food Systems: Social and Biological Factors in Sustainable Agriculture: This course spends extended time in small Thai villages learning about rural life, as well as studying about upland coffee farming, cacao/chocolate production, and more.

FORESTS — Political Ecology of Forests: People and Natural Resources: Learning from the indigenous people of upland Northern Thailand, students learn about how indigenous cultures are shaped by and use the forest they live in.

OCEANS — Culture and Ecology of the Andaman: Islands, Reefs and Mangroves: This course focuses on reef ecosystems, mangroves, seagrasses, and the human communities that depend on them for their survival. Students live in a small coastal fishing village as well as sea kayak and camp on the islands of a tropical archipelago.
