Relative to other ISDSI courses, students spend the most amount of time in the “traditional classroom” during the Foundation’s course. However, understanding the need for students to truly immerse themselves in what they are learning about, ISDSI also makes sure the students visit numerous organizations – NGO and government run – around Chiang Mai so the students can experience things hands-on. Some of these visits have included going to a women’s shelters, Burmese Study Center, Doi Suthep-Bui National Park, and recently a Tilapia fish farm.
The fish farm was a great opportunity for ISDSI students to learn about a social business that operates successfully breeding and selling tilapia fish, and also intentionally works to positively impact the farm’s surrounding community. However, that was only the beginning. It was then time for the students to get wet and dirty as they helped harvest fish eggs from the tilapias’ mouths.
