This past Friday students took a trip to the fish farm at the Northern Thailand Foundation for Enablement (NTFE), one hour north of Chiang Mai in Mae Taeng. The farm produces tilapia fish fry for farmers all over northern Thailand.
After a tour to see the farm’s grounds and fish hatchery, students waded waist-deep into the ponds to get some memorable hands-on experience. Farm employees showed students how to drag a net across the bottom of the pond to corral and move full grown tilapia to a new pond. Students also helped check the mouths of female tilapia for eggs, gathering what they found to take to the hatchery.
Between morning and afternoon activities in the ponds, students and staff enjoyed a delicious mid-day meal of…fish!
