ISDSI Summer Internship Programs

The following is a list of organizations and opportunities available through the ISDSI Internship Program. These internships provide hands-on experience in fields such as sustainable agriculture, public health, environmental conservation, education, and community development. Each placement is designed to offer meaningful engagement with local organizations, allowing students to apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings while contributing to impactful projects in Thailand.

Green Net Cooperative (GNC)

  • Organization Description: Green Net Cooperative is a leading social enterprise promoting organic farming and fair trade in Thailand. Work closely with local farmers and learn about organic seedling, organic farm in Northern Thailand.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist with seed saving and farming activities and methods such as earthworm farming, soldier fly cultivation, organic fertilizer and pest control, well-being with herbs, and clean fresh food.

The Mae Tha Organic Community Enterprise

  • Organization Description: The Mae Tha Organic Community Enterprise is a dynamic and prominent organic food producer and supplier in Thailand founded by a group of young farmers.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist with farming activities on sustainable methods. Participate with local sustainable agricultural businesses (e.g., farm-to-table boxes or vegetable box schemes). Help sell agricultural products at the organic farmer’s markets.

Studio Horjhama

  • Organization Description: Studio Horjhama is a food studio and a farm-to-table restaurant, using solely local ingredients from surrounding communities, farmers, and indigenous groups.
  • Internship Opportunity: Daily tasks include setting up tables, cleaning, sweeping, doing dishes, assisting with food preparation and baking, and learning how to cook Northern Thai recipes.

Huay Tong Kor Community

  • Organization Description: A Karen community that maintains traditional cultures and lifestyles such as wet rice paddy farming, coffee plantations, natural dye clothing, and weaving.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist with farming activities. Learn about cultural traditions such as weaving, farming, blacksmithing, basket weaving, and traditional herbal medicine. Help promote CBT through social media. Assist school teachers in English communication skills.

Huay Hee Community

  • Organization Description: A Karen Christian community that practices rotational farming (sustainable rice farming), natural dye clothes, and traditional weaving.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist with farming activities in rotational farms. Learn about culture and traditions such as weaving and farming. Help promote CBT through social media. Assist school teachers with English communication skills.

The Forest Restoration Research Unit (FORRU-CMU)

  • Organization Description: FORRU-CMU is a small team of ecologists and research students at Chiang Mai University’s Biology Department.
  • Internship Opportunity: Help in a plant nursery preparing for reforestation. Assist with research on data collection and plant species analysis. Assist with the education program for school-aged students.

The Coordinating Committee for the Protection of Ping River Basin and Environment (CCPE)

  • Organization Description: Formed in 1993 to protect the Ping River and its surrounding environment.
  • Internship Opportunity: Create a map of all the water bodies around the Ping River using GIS/QGIS to assist the Administrative Organization in identifying potential problem areas related to pollution, erosion, or flooding.

Indigenous Media Network (IMN) under IMPECT

  • Organization Description: IMPECT is a network of NGOs supporting Indigenous development in Thailand.
  • Internship Opportunity: Translate documents to English, video editing, and teaching English. Learn from Hmong culture and educational methods in rural communities.

Khuamung Thai Traditional Medicine Center

  • Organization Description: A healthcare service center based on Thai traditional medicine, offering massage, herbal treatments, and rehabilitation services.
  • Internship Opportunity: Shadow different stations, including OPD, pharmacy, massage treatment, and medicine making.

The Dulabhatorn Foundation

  • Organization Description: Supports children with disabilities through therapy and vocational training.
  • Internship Opportunity: Facilitate therapeutic horse riding, support social media promotion, and assist in marketing products made by caregivers.

Sangsan Anakot Yaowachon Foundation

  • Organization Description: Led by LGBTQAN+ feminists, this foundation supports social justice for marginalized communities.
  • Internship Opportunity: Support fundraising, develop reports, build business plans, and assist with grant applications.

Wild Flower Home Foundation

  • Organization Description: Provides a safe space for single mothers and children.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist with administration, social media marketing, and hands-on activities for mothers and children.

Nai Wat Mae Sa Mai Child Care Center

  • Organization Description: A Hmong community child care center focused on early childhood education.
  • Internship Opportunity: Assist teachers, participate in home visits, and gain experience in Hmong culture.

Sansai Wittayakom School

  • Organization Description: A secondary school in Chiang Mai providing education for grades 7-12.
  • Internship Opportunity: Provide English communication sessions through interactive activities.

Karen Ruammit Elephant Community

  • Organization Description: A Karen community-led elephant camp providing education on indigenous elephant care knowledge.
  • Internship Opportunity: Shadow mahouts, assist with tourist education, and help provide care for elephants.

Center for Girls Foundation (CFGF)

  • Organization Description: CFGF empowers women and children, reduces instances of gender-based violence (GBV), and educates the populace about human trafficking issues.
  • Internship Opportunity: Social media posts describing the “Social Empowerment for Gender Equality” project. Accompany staff to interact with the community. CFG staff lead workshops on financial education, and students support the facilitation of these workshops.
