Learning Experientially: Our Farm to Your Table

The farm-to-table movement is exploding around the World as more people want to feel a closer connection to where their food comes from.  And, whether it is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), farmer markets or local farm-to-table restaurants, the movement is proving itself to be successful in many places.

At ISDSI we take the farm-to-table experience one step farther.  During the Sustainable Food Systems course, students learn hands-on what it is like to be the farmer.  For five days, students live with organic farmers in a small village and meet with leaders in the organic agriculture movement. They then finish their field course experience by helping their host mothers sell vegetables at an organic market in Chiang Mai city on the last day.   IMG_1306Whether it is helping in the field, peeling tamarind to be sold in the market, eating freshly picked organic vegetables from the family farm or interacting with customers, ISDSI students immerse themselves in the life of an organic farmer. They grow to understand the fun, dirty, difficult and enjoyable aspects of life on a small organic farm, and come out with a deeper understanding of the true meaning behind the farm-to-table movement. IMG_1208It’s one thing to understand farm-to-table, but it’s a whole other thing to live it, and we, along with the local farmers, would love for you to join us! Studying abroad at ISDSI for a semester in an experience not to be missed.  Visit our apply page for more details today!
